How to Activate Futures Trading on Binance

· About 5 min

Futures trading on Binance isn't available right after registration — you need to meet a few prerequisites and pass a short quiz first. The process might feel a bit confusing the first time around, so here's a clear breakdown of every step.

Prerequisites for Activation

First, you need a Binance account. If you don't have one yet, click here to sign up for Binance. After registration, you must complete KYC identity verification — unverified accounts cannot access futures. Verification typically requires an ID document and facial recognition, and approval usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.

Where to Find the Futures Section

On the App: Open the Binance App and tap "Futures" in the bottom navigation bar. First-time users will be prompted to activate.

On the web: Log into the Binance website and find "Derivatives" > "USDT-M Futures" or "COIN-M Futures" in the top menu bar. Clicking through will trigger the activation process.

What the Knowledge Quiz Covers

Binance requires you to complete a short futures knowledge quiz — roughly 10 multiple-choice questions covering topics such as:

  • The relationship between leverage and margin
  • The concept of liquidation
  • The difference between isolated and cross margin modes
  • The basics of going long and going short
  • How funding rates work

You can retake it if you get answers wrong — there's no limit on attempts. Take the questions seriously, though, as this knowledge genuinely applies to real trading.

Initial Settings After Activation

Once you pass the quiz, futures trading is unlocked. Before you start, here are a few things to set up:

  1. Choose your margin mode: The default is cross margin. Beginners should switch to isolated margin for better risk control
  2. Set your leverage: The default may be 20x. Beginners should absolutely lower this to 3–5x
  3. Transfer funds: Move USDT from your spot account to your futures account. Internal transfers are free

Risk Warning: Futures trading carries the risk of liquidation. Leverage amplifies both gains and losses. Beginners should start with small amounts to learn the ropes, and avoid jumping into high leverage.

Android: direct APK install. iOS: requires overseas Apple ID
