How to Set Up Google Authenticator on Binance

· About 6 min

Why You Should Enable Google Authenticator

Relying solely on a password to protect your Binance account is far from enough. Passwords can be guessed, leaked, or stolen through phishing sites. Google Authenticator, on the other hand, generates a new verification code every 30 seconds that exists only on your phone — no one else can access it. Once enabled, even if your password is compromised, hackers won't be able to log into your account or withdraw your funds.

Step 1: Download Google Authenticator

For iPhone, head to the App Store. For Android, go to Google Play or your phone's built-in app store and search for "Google Authenticator." Make sure you download the official version made by Google — the icon is a gray "G." If you're using a domestic Android phone without access to Google Play, you can search for it in the Huawei AppGallery or Xiaomi App Store.

Step 2: Find the 2FA Settings on Binance

Log into your Binance account, tap the profile icon in the top-left corner to go to the "Account" page, find the "Security" section, and enter the "Security Center." Under the Two-Factor Authentication area, you'll see the "Binance/Google Authenticator" option — tap the "Enable" button on the right. If you don't have a Binance account yet, sign up first before proceeding.

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

After tapping Enable, a QR code will appear on the screen. Open Google Authenticator on your phone, tap the "+" icon in the bottom-right corner, select "Scan a QR code," and point your camera at the QR code on screen. Once scanned successfully, a "Binance" entry will appear in the app, automatically generating a new 6-digit code every 30 seconds.

Back Up Your Secret Key — Don't Skip This Step

Below the QR code, you'll see a 16-character alphanumeric string — this is your backup key. Write it down on paper and store it somewhere safe at home. Don't take a screenshot and save it on your phone, and don't store it in cloud storage or chat histories. If your phone breaks, gets lost, or you accidentally uninstall the app, this backup key is the only way to recover access. Without it, you'll need to submit a support ticket for manual identity verification, which could take several days.

Complete the Verification

Go back to the Binance page and enter the 6-digit code currently displayed in the app into the verification field, then tap Submit. Once confirmed, you'll see a success message. From now on, you'll need to open the app and enter the current code whenever you log in, make a withdrawal, or change security settings. We also recommend downloading the Binance App on your phone to use alongside Google Authenticator for a smoother experience.
